minor set back today...
the organization which I signed up with for the big trip has suddenly decided I am not qualified enough to undertake the medical placement as I am not studying to be a nurse or a dr. odd, seeing as a month ago I was qualified to do so.
so I have sent a pleading email back to the director, explaining the course I am doing and my scope of practice (not to mention that in my opinion I am way more qualified to work in an emergency medical clinic than a student nurse)
if not I guess I will have to go through one of the other companies, which seem slightly dodgier but not completely scam-like.
so I guess for now I'm down but not out...

Medical Volunteer Trip to Ghana
In July 2013 I will be travelling to Ghana, Africa to
work as a medical volunteer for four weeks. I am raising money to cover my
flights and to purchase much needed medical supplies to donate to the clinics
and hospital where I will be working.
I will be
working in rural hospitals and health clinics, where trained staff are
desperately needed and medical supplies are limited beyond belief. Health care
in Ghana defies the imagination of most Australians, with some Ghanian’s having
never seen a doctor in their lifetime. Diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis
are epidemic and go largely untreated and things like pain relief or
anaesthetics are used in only the most serious cases and then sparingly.
Only about 20% of
the African population have real access to some form of primary care and live
within a few hours walk of a health care facility. Health care facilities are
extremely limited in the major cities and completely inadequate outside of the
cities. Each day people are suffering and dying from the lack of sufficient
health facilities, insufficient equipment and shortages of medical supplies.
Please help me to
help them! Thank You! My goal is to raise $5000, which will help to cover the
cost of my flights, and the majority of the money will be used to buy equipment
and supplies. Thank you for your support!
You can help me with this project by buying (or selling)
chocolates, donating directly via my website @ http://www.gofundme.com/lyndalghana
or by purchasing first aid kits – which you can either utilise for yourself, or
which you can donate them to families in Ghana and I will deliver them along
with the other supplies. Updates on the kits will follow shortly!
